Almost there..

….but not quite yet. At 34 weeks it’s like so near yet so far. Body’s been getting ready for the big day with me having menstrual cramps once in a while plus dull backaches. And I’ve been spending the past few weeks going through and washing Ashley’s old baby clothing and they are all over the house in containers! Pity the washing machine having to work overtime. I almost wanted to assemble the baby cot myself when hubby stopped me and said he’ll do it instead. Talk about having the nesting instinct!

Despite being pregnant for the second time this feels like my first, since Ashley’s birth was an induced labour plus vacuum aided delivery. I honestly regretted that I didn’t read up enough on the risks of being induced and rely heavily on doctor’s advice instead. Otherwise it would save me all the stress right now and enjoy my pregnancy completely. Not saying my pregnancy’s been a horrid experience, nope it’s very pleasant and great thus far. Just that with the previous birth now I’m a perfect candidate to go under the knife, yeap my gynae suggested that I should have a scheduled caesarean delivery at week 38 due to the complications we had during Ashley’s birth. And I am hoping she would come out earlier than week 38 so that we don’t have to undergo caesarean delivery.

Honestly after having two surgeries when I was younger – appendix and also to remove one of my fallopian tubes – lets say I’m not a fan of surgeries UNLESS it’s complete necessary or life threatening. The healing process takes longer, I still remember I couldn’t sneeze, laugh, cough otherwise my surgery wound would hurt. Urgh. Plus I have a pre-schooler to look after, it’s going to be tough if I were to have a caesarean delivery.

And the other day Ashley did this amazing thing,we were sitting at the edge of the bed and baby was squirming around so she placed her hands on my tummy. She loves to feel her lil sis move around (more than her daddy!!) and she gets really excited every time too, she asked if mei mei (little sister in Mandarin) is coming out soon, I thought she's referring to the number of weeks left so I said yeap soon darling. Suddenly to my utter surprise AND amazement, she kneeled in front of me and held her hands under me. She said ok mommy Ashley's ready, just push and mei mei will pop into my hands. Don't be scared ok, stomach pain abit only. I have NO IDEA where she gets it from! Occasionally we do view 3D videos of baby being inside my womb and the only time she watched a live birth video was during a hypnobirthing talk but it warms my heart tremendously that my girl thinks the only way a baby comes out into the world is through natural birth. Just gives me hope that I'm able to have another natural birth.

Hi there, I have been following your cooking blog from time to time. Congratulations! realised that you are due soon.

I can't help to ask why you need to have caesarean section since you have a vaginal delivey (vaccum) previously with Ashley. Furthermore, you have 2 abdominal surgeries previously which make the C/S slightly higher risk. Last question, why 38 weeks? It is recommended that all elective caesarean setions should be done at 39 weeks to reduce the risk of breathing problem to the baby (transiet tachypnic of newborn).

Hope you have safe delivery!

Thanks Angeline :)

Hi there, Christine's friend :)

Thanks for visiting my blog and the well wishes. C-sec's very common at this side of the world sad to say and I'm not a fan of it. I blogged about it here {http://alesiayong.blogspot.com/2011/09/week-30.html} too lengthy if I were to explain it again, hope you don't mind ya.

I also raised my concern about having two other abdominal surgeries and my gyane said it doesn't involve the uterus. Still I'm very adamant in giving birth naturally again and finally we decided to just wait for things to start naturally and then take it from there if there's a need for C-sec or not. Again I'm preparing myself mentally and psychically for natural birth.
